Introduction
Most teams agree alignment matters. The difficulty is turning agreement into specific decisions and daily working practices.
Account-based growth provides a useful focus: shared accounts, buying groups and objectives. The label does not create alignment by itself.
Agree the operational priorities
Define which segments and accounts matter, why they fit and how resources will be allocated. Include sales capacity and customer context that campaign data may not reveal.
The account list should be jointly usable, not approved once and forgotten.
Share the evidence
Agree opportunity criteria, signal ownership and how quickly context is shared. Include recycling, follow-up and support for active deals.
The agreement should explain what happens after the response, not simply who receives the lead.

Use AI to reduce preparation, not accountability
AI needs context and good data to contribute to decisions on optimising sales & marketing alignment. Your CRM and MAP data should provide the current state evidence. Increasing pipeline conversion, improving pipeline velocity and increasing pipeline value are all goals requiring good alignment, but they may require different operational realities that need to be agreed so workflows and system rules can be configured appropriately.
Keep the cadence practical
A focused routine with decisions is more valuable than a large meeting without ownership. Review commitments and refine the operating agreement as you learn.
Alignment becomes real when both functions can explain the next action for a priority account and why it matters.
